As a part of my jewellery design studies I participated in a student exchange program in Idar-Oberstein, Germany, to learn the basics of gemstone carving. Upon my return to the UK I wanted to carry on developing my new skills but faced the dilemma of where to start without all the machines and tools when they are not readily available. I feared it would cost me a fortune trying to find and buy all of the lapidary machinery that I had seen and used in Germany so I had to get creative!
Over time I have developed several methods using readily available (and affordable) tools so that I can carry on creating and developing my craft. Additionally I started running gemstone carving workshops at my studio in Brighton, UK, to pass on these skills.
Throughout my career I have regularly been contacted from abroad asking whether I would travel to run overseas workshops to share my knowledge. I have come to realise that there are so many people wanting to learn gemstone carving but don't know how to get started, exactly like I had been all those years ago. So this course is created to help you start this craft with nine easy to follow modules, from putting together your workspace to top tips on how to master polishing, with two bonus modules.
